Using external resourcing can often be the only way for an organisation to find the human capital required to staff key projects or other non-business-as-usual initiatives.
However, using external resources can provide a number of other advantages to an organisation:
Experience
- In-depth subject matter expertise gained from a number of different clients
- A ‘fresh pair of eyes’ in the organisation
- Seasoned project and delivery focused mindset
Focus
- Ability to concentrate on the project/ task at hand without distractions from ‘business as usual’ responsibilities
Impartiality
- Easier to give impartial advice/ make recommendations without worrying about ‘who to please’ in the organisation
Flexibility
- Availability at short notice
- Little or no-notice periods are required in the event of project cancellation
Cost
- Whilst the expectation is that external consultants and other external resources will charge a day rate at a premium to an average salary, there are no payroll costs (such as N.I) or associated benefits to be paid to external resources
- No ‘redundancy’ or ‘payment in lieu of notice’ costs
